The main problem is noone is interested in the fight so the “promoters” can’t find anyone to foot the bill. The proposed split isn’t particularly unfair as Kelly doesn’t deserve a title shot but him and Booth almost certainly overestimates his worth.

This is where the Old Guard structure of boxing is shown to be most flawed. It shouldn’t be this difficult to get one of the top guys in the sport’s hottest division into the ring.

Kathy Duva is likely at fault here – she has zero leverage – so she should forgo any cut she’s hoping to make and pass that money to Kelly who I’d have as a 10/1 underdog – so he needs some decent compensation for what could be a career ending beating
