The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is encouraging people to consider wearing face masks, amongst other precautions, now that temperatures have dropped and various infections are circulating. Influenza, Covid, common colds, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) typically become more widespread during the autumn and winter periods.
While symptoms may be similar, certain illnesses can prove far more serious than others.
In a fresh post on X, previously known as Twitter, published on Tuesday, the UKHSA stated: “Feeling under the weather? Individuals are being advised to follow five key steps to help prevent infections from spreading in the coming weeks and months.
These include washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes with tissues, remaining at home when feeling poorly, opening windows during indoor gatherings, and considering mask-wearing when venturing outside.

Covid fatalities climbed by nearly 15 per cent week-on-week, rising from 87 to 100, in the week ending October 3.
During the week ending September 30, the most current data available, hospital admissions for Covid patients increased from 1,894 to 2,077, representing a rise of 9.7 per cent, reports the Mirror.
