Super League-bound York Knights have confirmed a new deal for an “unsung hero” in their squad

Australian forward Jesse Dee will get an opportunity to show what he can do at the elite level next year after impressing during Knights’ surge into the top-flight.

York won the 1895 Cup and were Championship leaders in 2025 before last week securing a Super League place through the application process introduced to expand the competition from 12 to 14 clubs.

Dee, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on Saturday, joined Knights from Newcastle Thunder ahead of the 2023 season after stints Down Under with Mackay Cutters, Illawarra Cutters and Queensland Rangers.

“Jesse is a real unsung hero of the group,” Knights coach Mark Applegarth said. “He’s a massive leader behind the scenes.

“There’s no doubt he could make the step up to Super League and be a real force. For me, he’s one of the best back-rowers in the league and I am delighted he has signed again.”

Dee, who can play at centre as well as in the pack, added: “I believe in what we’re building here under Mash [Applegarth]. We have got a great group that’s hungry to take the next step and I am excited to keep being a part of it. Next year’s going to be big.”
