ITV’s Lorraine went into chaos this morning as part of the set broke while on air. Ranvir Singh welcomed Strictly Come Dancing stars Lewis Cope and his partner Katya Jones onto the daytime TV programme but things didn’t quite go to plan. As she introduced the guests, Ranvir gestured to the doors, which failed to open.

The presenter waited a few seconds before realising the doors were broken. She said: “Oh no, I’m going to have to rescue them.” In the meantime, someone was trying to open the doors on the other side to let the guests onto the set, before a panel came loose and broke away from the huge doors.

The electronic sliding doors were designed with a screen filled with flames, as Lewis and Katya were coming onto the show to discuss their quickstep to Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash.

When the doors failed to open, Ranvir jumped up to help her guests, before the entrance partly opened and they could make their way to the sofa to start the interview.

Ranvir, who took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, joked: “Nobody noticed. We need to set that wall actually on fire, it’s dead.” She joked: “Hello, look at you two breaking my set! Do you know what, the show must go on as you both know.”

Lewis went on to talk about his routine for Saturday night’s show. The former Emmerdale actor is one of the favourites to win Strictly Come Dancing this year.

As part of Icons Week, Lewis revealed he is set to transform into Johnny Cash for Saturday night show. He will be performing a quickstep to Ring of Fire.

Meanwhile, Ross King sneaked into the shot in the background to try and fix the missing square from the doors. He also took part in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing with Jowita Przytal. They were the second couple to leave the competition, after Amy Dowden and Apprentice star Thomas Skinner.

The interview soon resumed as normal, as Ranvir asked about Lewis’ dance experience. Away from acting, Lewis appeared in Billy Elliot the Musical on the West End as a child, when he played the role of Michael.

He was also part of the hip-hop dance troupe Ruff Diamond, which finished as runner-up on the Sky One dance competition Got to Dance in 2013.

Both Lewis and Amber Davies, who is partnered Nikita Kuzmin, received backlash for their dance experience ahead of their participation in Strictly.

Speaking on Lorraine, Lewis said: “I was lucky enough to be in Billy Elliot when I was a kid. Not playing Billy Elliot, I played Michael which is basically an acting role who does one tap dance.”

He added: “After that, I danced a little bit as a teen, but after that but I decided to go and train professionally as an actor. And it’s always been acting for me.”
