Hull KR have announced the acquisition of halfback Jack Charles from cross-city rivals Hull FC.
The teenage playmaker has joined the club on a four-year deal after the Robins paid a transfer fee to secure his services.
Charles, 19, is an England Academy international and has already gained experience in Super League, featuring in 22 matches for the Black and Whites.
Danny Richardson’s exit had left a vacancy in Rovers’ spine department, prompting them to pursue Charles, whom they regard as one of the most promising young halfbacks in the sport.
The son of former Robin Chris Charles, Jack commented: “It’s a bit surreal. My family are all Red and White. But this was ultimately my own decision and I want to stamp my own legacy at the club and on the game.
“Mikey and Tyrone are great players with what they’ve done the last few couple of years. I just want to learn off them alongside Willie (Peters) and be a sponge on the training pitch and off it.”
He continued: “I’ve come to Sewell Group Craven Park on the other side and it was an unbelievable experience – the atmosphere was like being in a movie!”.
“I’m looking forward to the fans being on my side and hopefully repay them. They’re the people that pay us and they’re the people I want to do proud.”
Head coach Willie Peters welcomed the long-term signing of Jack Charles: ‘We’re pleased to welcome Jack to Hull KR. “He’s an exciting young half and his best years are ahead of him. Jack has the opportunity to learn from our staff alongside Tyrone May and Mikey Lewis, which will give him the best opportunity to develop into a Super League player at Hull KR.”
