A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 26-year-old manCheetham Hill incident on CCTV

Terrifying footage of the events leading up to a suspected murder appears to have been caught on CCTV. A video circulating on social media shows a car flipping onto its roof, with another vehicle stopping closely behind.

A person is seen getting out, before being chased on foot by two figures. The CCTV, it is understood, shows what happened before a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death.

The Manchester Evening News has taken a decision not to publish the footage in full.

Police were called to reports of a ‘disturbance’ on Cardinal Street, Cheetham Hill, Thursday afternoon (October 23).

The victim suffered serious stab wounds and later died. A 19-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of murder. He was being questioned by detectives on Friday (October 24).

The Manchester Evening News understands the victim was involved in a car chase, prior to the crash, before he was knifed in a ‘targeted attack’.

A photograph was earlier sent to the Manchester Evening News, showing a car on its roof at the scene. The boot and what appears to be a door are seen open.

Officers stood guard at the scene on Friday as forensic work continued.

In a statement, GMP said: “At around 2.25pm, officers responded to reports that a man, aged 26, had sustained serious injuries on Cardinal Street, Manchester. Officers performed CPR and he was taken to hospital, where despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he sadly died later that day.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. A man, aged 19, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are currently ongoing and the investigation is moving at pace.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are still very early in our investigation, and work is still ongoing as we establish the full circumstances following yesterday’s incident.

“However, we have secured an arrest, and multiple officers remain at the scene as part of our ongoing enquiries. You can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days, and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer.

“Understandably, anything like this will cause worry within our local communities, but I want to reassure people that we are committing considerable resources to this investigation, and will continue to work to ensure that whoever is responsible is brought to justice.”
