Birmingham City have a clutch of senior players who sit outside Chris Davies’ first team plansTyler Roberts during a Birmingham City training session
Chris Davies has had no issues with Birmingham City’s outcasts and was glad to give them minutes in Wednesday’s friendly against Solihull Moors.
Ex-Blues captain Dion Sanderson, Alfons Sampsted and Emil Hansson all featured against Moors. A goal from Sampsted, crafted by Hansson, ensured Blues retained The Arthur Cup at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.
The trio are understood to sit outside of Davies’ first team plans for the upcoming Championship season and were omitted from Blues’ opening three pre-season fixtures.
Davies said: “They’re all players that didn’t feature too much last season but what I would say is football can be unpredictable.
“They’ve had a game there and Alfons has scored a good goal, and Emil set him up. We have to put together a squad. We have a lot of players and we are working out who is really part of that squad we’re going to take forward.
“When you’re in a window it’s always a bit unpredictable. What I’ll say to all of those players is continue to work, get fit and see where the season takes you.”
Tyler Roberts has also been deemed surplus-to-requirements after a fruitless loan spell at Northampton Town. Roberts graced the Premier League on 50 occasions for Leeds United but he has only scored once in the last two-and-a-half years.
He was due to play against Moors before an injury ruled him out.
Davies added: “He’s injured. It’s only a small injury. He’s been training well actually, looking strong, and he was due to play but he picked up a slight injury. He won’t be long.”
