The second half of Liverpool‘s clash at Brentford has been delayed after referee Simon Hooper picked up an injury. The Reds are 2-1 down after the first 45 minutes in west London and are staring at a fourth straight Premier League defeat.
Dango Ouattara finished off a signature Brentford long throw to put them ahead against Arne Slot’s side around five minutes in. Kevin Schade then raced clear into the oceans of space behind Liverpool’s defence to put the Bees 2-0 ahead.
Milos Kerkez has given Slot’s men a lifeline after scoring just before the break. However, the second 45 was delayed after referee Hooper reportedly tweaked his hamstring. He was replaced by Tim Robinson at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Asked for his assessment of Liverpool’s struggles, Rangers legend Ally McCoist told TNT Sports: “Liverpool need to get control of this game. They look vulnerable across the pitch and they are losing the ball in areas they don’t need to.
“Sometimes when you’re struggling, you have to revert back to the good old days. Luckily the good old days were only last year, so just play four at the back, three midfielders and three forwards. They look all over the place at the minute.”
Mohamed Salah returns to the Liverpool team as one of three changes made by Slot. Salah came off the bench with around 15 minutes remaining at Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek but starts on Saturday in place of Alexander Isak, who is sidelined with a groin problem.
Kerkez has returned at left-back in place of Andy Robertson as Conor Bradley fills in for Jeremie Frimpong, who suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of the midweek Champions League victory.
Three former Liverpool players, including Jordan Henderson, feature in the Brentford starting line-up.
