Muvattupuzha: Swimmers enjoying a refreshing dip in the waters of Thodupuzha river should be cautious of otters. If provoked, these semi-aquatic creatures may become aggressive. Otters have been spotted in the Arakkuzha Moozhi area of Thodupuzha river. While it’s fascinating to watch them swim swiftly across the river near Moozhi Bridge, hunting for prey, caution is advised.

Throwing stones or blocking their path can provoke a response from the otters, especially if there are young pups in the group. Otters are known to attack humans if they feel threatened. First spotted in the area about two years ago, the otter population has grown significantly, raising concerns among the local residents.
