Jennifer Lawrence recalled meeting her future husband Cooke Maroney in a new interview with The New Yorker

“I had no idea he was hot or single. I was like, ‘Whoa,'” the Die My Love told the outlet of the art dealer, whom she met in 2018

The pair wed in 2019 and have since welcomed two children

Jennifer Lawrence’s husband Cooke Maroney left quite the impression on the actress when the two first met in 2018.

In a new interview in The New Yorker, the Oscar winner, 35, recalled the encounter. She had mentioned to mutual friend, writer-director Gene Stupnitsky, that she was interested in buying a painting, and he recommended that she speak with Maroney, 41, a New York art dealer.

“I was, like, ‘What kind of name is this? What do I call him?’” Lawrence told the outlet. When she met him after he invited her to a gallery show, “I was like, ‘Whoa,’” she continued.

“I had no idea he was hot or single,” she said of the 6-foot-5 Maroney.

The pair got engaged the following February, PEOPLE confirmed at the time, and they wed in Rhode Island at the Belcourt of Newport in October 2019. Guests included Adele, Kris Jenner, Amy Schumer and Robert De Niro.

“I’ll never forget — I was freaking out about the guests being cold, and all of my friends were lying. They’re like, ‘Nobody’s cold, nobody’s cold, everything’s fine, everything’s fine,’ ” she recalled to E! News in 2024,

“My mom was like, ‘It’s freezing out there. Your grandmother almost died,’” she added.

In a 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, she opened up about married life and how she enjoys spending time with Maroney.

“I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him. I don’t know why but it fills me with a lot of joy. I think maybe because it’s almost a metaphor for marriage. ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. These are the things we need. Let’s work together and get this done,’” she said.

The couple are parents to son Cy, who was born in 2022, and a second baby they welcomed in early 2025. Lawrence has not shared the name or gender of their younger child.

They named their son after artist Cy Twombly, one of Maroney’s favorite painters — and Lawrence shared with The New Yorker that she’s learning more about the art world thanks to her husband.

“I’ve learned a lot through osmosis because, if I ask him about his day, the story is about art,” she said.
