The Magpies added six players to Eddie Howe’s first-team squad in the summer and have looked more able to deal with the demands of European football

Newcastle United’s summer transfer business has turned the Magpies into a side capable of handling the rigours of the Champions League and domestic schedules, despite losing Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
While much of the focus in August was focused on the Swede’s desire to move to Anfield, United quiely went about their transfer business, bringing the likes of Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey and Anthony Elanga to St James’ Park.
Isak’s exit just before deadline day was finally given the green light as deals to sign Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa were sealed, and while it’s taken Eddie Howe’s side a little while to get into their stride, they have recorded two Champions League wins in their three games to date.
Saturday’s win over Fulham came on the back of the 3-0 success against Benfica, and former Stoke City boss Pulis feels the Magpies now have the strength in depth to deal with the challenges ahead.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
“I think everybody talks about Alexander Isak and the money they brought in for him, but he’s made some good signings,” Pulis told Grosvenor Casino.
“If you look at Newcastle’s squad, it’s stronger now than it was last year. They have more cover in certain places.
“Eddie Howe’s very good at just calming everything down and keeping a low profile.
“They have a very, very good group of players there, and again, they’re going to have a good season.”
Pulis has been impressed with Nick Woltemade’s contribution since his club record £69m transfer for Stuttgart.
The German has already netted five times for Newcastle, with the Magpies striker also bringing out the best in his team-mates in recent weeks.
“The big fella up front is a throwback, but he plays with lots of enthusiasm and he’s scoring goals,” Pulis added. “He looks a little bit awkward at times, a little bit gangly and this, that and the other.
“But yeah, the supporters have taken to him and it looks as though it’s a cracking signing.”
