Samsung has made it clear that the Galaxy Watch 5 series will eventually get Wear OS 6. A new update is rolling out, but it isn’t One UI 8 based on Wear OS 6.

Samsung added a new changelog to its library regarding the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Generally, a one or two-sentence changelog is a split-second indicator that an update will not include a major OS upgrade. The update – R910XXU1CYJ1 – is exactly that, and it simply reads, “Device behavior has been improved.”

Security updates are always welcome, and Samsung does a good job of ensuring they get out to users in a timely fashion. Still, Galaxy Watch 5 users are expecting an upgrade to Wear OS 6 , or One UI 8 Watch, soon. Samsung hasn’t made any promises on timing, but it’s expected to be sooner rather than later.

Samsung began rolling out One UI 8 based on Wear OS 6 to the Galaxy Watch 7 in mid-October 2025. It’s expected that the Galaxy Watch 6 series will soon see the stable release, though it has had access to the beta for some time. After that rollout, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro should see an update to the new OS.

One UI 8 for the Galaxy Watch brings a few changes, but most are cosmetic. Still, stacked tiles and a better UI make a big difference in experience. The update also includes access to Samsung’s Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, Running Coach, and Bedtime Guidance features.

The latest security update might be the last one before One UI 8 Watch becomes official for the two devices. As with any security update, it can be downloaded and installed via the Galaxy Wearables app.
