Katie Price is currently on tour and she’s served yet more tea on her ill-fated marriage to Peter Andre, claiming that his agent pushed him into going on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! to pursue Katie for the sake of boosting his career. According to the Daily Mail, the former glamour model alleged during her live show An Evening with Katie Price & Kerry Katona that she discovered an email between Peter and his manager about how to use the show to raise his profile by getting with a well-known celebrity in the jungle.

The couple went on to marry and have children together, but if her allegation is true it does rather undercut the budding romance that viewers thought they were watching at the time.

It should be noted that Andre’s camp have denied any such encouragement by his manager.

It isn’t the first time in the show’s 23-year history that contestants have claimed that things on the show are set up or staged in some way, though. All is not what it seems, according to these ex-campmates…

After appearing on the show in 2017, the footballer’s wife claimed that the campmates are asked to film scenes “three or four” times on certain occasions.

“If you’re stood where the phone box is and look straight out, it’s all fake,” Rebecca said. She added that what surprised her most about the show was, “how edited it is, even down to us walking to the trials. We had to do that walk three or four times”.

She then went on to dismiss claims that the campmates are given secret food, explaining that they never went in the shower because it was so cold, and were often given topics of conversation in the Bush Telegraph to discuss with their fellow celebrities.

“Any time that you see people sat around [the fire], usually someone’s been called into the Bush Telegraph and comes out with a bit of paper and says, ‘We all need to discuss this topic’.”

At the time, an ITV spokesperson said: “What viewers see on screen is a fair and accurate representation of life in camp.”

One of the more shocking accusations about the show came from Hugo Taylor. The former Made In Chelsea star claimed that stars were forced to stop taking their medication during I’m A Celebrity’s 2012 series due to the lack of food they received in camp.

He claims it caused “real problems that were never televised” during the show’s 12th series.
In an interview at the time, Hugo alluded to “weird happenings” taking place in the camp as a result of their meagre diet of rice and beans.

Hugo said: “Things happened off camera because people had no food […] A lot of people’s medication says ‘take with food’ – some people stopped being able to take their medication which caused real problems.” (Hugo did not suggest the show’s producers were aware of this.)

The legendary waterfall shower has launched many a career – who can forget Myleene Klass in the white bikini? But it may surprise you to know it was created by producers to give the celebrities somewhere to keep clean with the cameras on.

Writing for Daily Mail in the past, former campmate Lauren Booth disclosed that it’s staged, saying: “The waterfall, like the pool beneath it, was not part of the jungle at all, but a man-made creation.

“Unless, of course, ‘real’ rainforest waterfalls get turned off between three and six every afternoon.”

She also revealed the rocks dotted around camp weren’t legit either, which the late David Gest noticed when he took a closer look and some of the scenery.

“It was David Gest who first spotted that they seemed to be hollow and made of papier mache,” she said, noting that there was a practical reason for them being there. “They occasionally cough, too. And yawn distractedly just when you think you’re reaching the climax of a long anecdote,” she retorted.

“The camp may be festooned with hidden microphones and technical wizardry, but cameramen are still needed for some shots – and they need somewhere to hide.”

For a time, Katie and Pete were the golden couple of reality TV, with a wedding and a string of big-money deals making them one of the most talked-about pairs in Britain.

But things turned toxic between the pair when their marriage came to an end in 2009 after four years together, with Katie claiming it was Peter’s decision to walk away from the relationship.

In light of Katie’s new allegations, a clip has resurfaced from their time on the show in 2004, where Peter can be heard asking Katie to go to the swimming pool with him the next day.

He pulls her towards him to whisper in her ear, the words “go for a swim together, it’s simple, easy – you know what I mean? Nothing bad”, which was picked up by the cameras.

A concerned Katie goes over to another of their campmates, Alex Best, and tells her: “He said, ‘If we go to the swimming pool together tomorrow…’ he says, you know, it would make a thing. ‘The only way we can stay in the show longer is if we do that.’ And I’m thinking… don’t you think, like, he’s using that? You watch, I’m completely off now.”

Later on in the show, Katie and Peter discuss the issue, with Peter defending his comments to Katie, saying: “What I said to you was genuine.”
