Hollyoaks star Gemma Bissix has shared her hopes for Clare Devine’s next return after her dramatic departure from the village. Clare’s reign of terror came to an end – for now – in tonight’s episode as the law finally caught up with her. As Clare tried to flee from Chester and disappear for good, her grandfather Froggy ensured that she faced justice for her crimes by shopping her in to the police. Froggy made it clear to Clare that she had to pay for killing Grace Black, his other granddaughter.
With police cars surrounding her, Clare realised the game was up – but she was adamant that she’d get her revenge against Froggy eventually…

Speaking exclusively to us about the outcome, Gemma said: “The law caught up with Clare! We need to understand that people who do bad things have to get their comeuppance.
“I don’t think it will last forever and the story leaves it open for her to return, as and when we’re ready.”

She continued: “But we’ve had the Hollyoaks Later and new characters coming in, so there has to be space for Clare to return. With the aftermath of everything, Clare can’t be wandering around the village when she’s crashed a plane and hurt people!
“There are a lot of people who are very sad because of the crash, so Clare has to take some time out before she can come back again.”
Clare returned to our screens this year for a six-month stint to celebrate Hollyoaks’ 30th anniversary.
Last month, Gemma denied reports that she’d left Hollyoaks for good and confirmed that Clare would continue to pop in and out of the show, as and when storylines allow.

In our latest chat, Gemma continued: “We always knew that Clare would have a big part in the anniversary – because she’s the baddie, isn’t she? So any explosion or revenge plot will come down to Clare! It was such a great compliment to be featured in it so much.
“She’s not a good guy and she’s never going to be. There were questions on socials recently asking if Clare is turning good because she turned against Jez, but definitely not.”
Asked how she’d like Clare’s next return to go, Gemma replied: “I’d love to do more stuff with Jen Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes. We had a little catfight this time, but it’d be good to do more in the future. Especially with their shared connection to Warren, now that Warren is back in the village.

“That’d be a great storyline to get involved with because Warren is such a villain – and Jen’s great to work with.
“Also, with James Nightingale coming back, I think there could be more of an intellectual battle between him and Clare. She’s always got a plan!”
Meanwhile, the latest Hollyoaks episode also featured the departures of Marie Fielding and her troublesome son Arlo, who moved to Brookside Close. The scenes marked the end of Rita Simons and Dan Hough’s time in the roles.
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
