Earlier this month, Bild reported Liverpool have joined the ‘poker’ for Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck. It was also stated the centre-back is on the Reds’ agenda for the winter market.

Sky Deutschland then dismissed this claim and reported that Liverpool aren’t in the mix for the 25-year-old.

Bild aren’t giving up and continue to insist Liverpool are keen on signing Schlotterbeck. Thursday’s edition of the newspaper reports the Premier League winners, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all interested in him.

The Germany international’s contract expires in 2027. BVB are keen on extending it, but the question is can they convince him.

Bild explain the defender has turned down Borussia Dortmund’s initial offer of €8m plus bonuses.

Schlotterbeck, who is a fan favourite, would want a better deal as he knows teammate Niklas Süle earns €14m annually.

Bild explain the ‘problem’ for the Bundesliga club is the interest show by Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The report states these clubs can offer him a salary of €14m per year plus bonuses. These teams are also near-guaranteed silverware, taking their recent track record into account.

If Schlotterbeck decides against signing an extension, the newspaper suggests Borussia Dortmund could retain him until his contract expires in 2027. That may not be an ideal scenario.
