The advent of streaming has led to a huge drop in sales of DVDs, once a common way to watch films and shows. With Netflix, Prime and Disney the favoured way to watch our favourite series and movies, DVDs have been gathering dust in many households across the country.
But there’s still a market for them among collectors who appreciate physical media – and they are on the look out for certain titles. If you have any of these at home, you could be sitting on a silver disc that is worth a surprising amount of cash.
The upside to having a film on DVD is that you have access to it to watch as and when you please. You don’t have to pay for a subscription to a service, where not every movie is available to stream either.
In a recent poll, Bally Casino found that several DVDs could be very valuable, reports The Express. And they brought in collectables expert Tracy Martin to run the rule over the ones that could fetch you a pretty penny.
Two are considerably valuable for collectors. Firstly, if you have the Carry On Film Collection you could be quids in.
These movies take the top spot for DVDs that are worth the most to collectors. A complete box set of the beloved British comedy series can fetch around £350.

If you have Monty Python and the Holy Grail Limited Edition Castle Box Set in your pile you will also be seeing pound signs before your eyes. Tracy said this can sell for as much as £300.
She said: “Collectable value can be due to rarity, different variants to the norm, oddities – misspellings on DVD cases or books, nostalgia – people buying back their memories, limited edition and basic supply and demand.
“There are so many reasons [why] things are collectable. People don’t always recognise they have things of value, which is why they turn to valuers like me or do their own research online.

“Always research to ensure you get the best price achievable for your collectable by looking to see what similar items have sold for in the past.”
According to Tracy, one of the most important steps in selling your items is choosing the right platform and setting a realistic price from the beginning.
She also said to keep hold of your pile of CDs, another physical media form that has been on the wane since the advent of streaming platforms such as Spotify.
CDs could follow in the footsteps of vinyl which is seeing a massive resurgence in popularity.
