A popular plant-based food product has been recalled over an allergy risk, according to an alert issued on behalf of food firm THIS™. The company has issued the alert via the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The product in question is the THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces which is sold by Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado. The issue relates to the fact that this project contains soya and wheat (gluten) but that this is not declared on the label.
In the FSA notice, THIS™ bosses said: “THIS™ is recalling THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces because the product contains soya and wheat (gluten) which are not declared on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease.”
The notice continues: “This product contains undeclared soya and wheat (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease.”
On the notice, the firm is obliged to detail how it is working to reduce the risk to the public. It adds: “”THIS™ is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see attached notice.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact THIS™ at shout@this.co.”
On it’s own website, the firm added: “We have initiated a precautionary recall of all of our THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces due to a mislabelling issue. During production, a batch of THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces was incorrectly packed with base labels intended for our THIS™ Isn’t Cocktail Sausages.
“THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces contain WHEAT (GLUTEN) & SOYA which are not present in the cocktail sausages and therefore, not declared on the label. Please check the website for the correct ingredient list for THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces before consuming. The safety of our customers is always our top priority.
“Pack sizes and use-by dates affected: Pack size: 120g | Use-by date: up until 13/11/2025 | The use-by date can be found on the front of the pack in the grey Use by box.”
