SCOTTISH RUGBY will induct 13 Scots into its Hall of Fame at a ceremony in central Edinburgh this evening attended by members of the men’s and women’s national squads and management teams, plus supporters who had participated in an online poll.
“Tonight we commemorate the rich and enduring contributions of the men and women whose influence in Scottish Rugby, in whatever their role, is the stuff of legend,” said former Scotland cap and captain Chris Paterson MBE, chair of Scottish Rugby’s Hall of Fame panel. “The word ‘inspiration’ doesn’t really do them justice!”
The Hall of Fame was established in 2010 and since then Scottish Rugby has welcomed 35 inductees, comprising in total 54 people, as the entire Scotland men’s team, who played in the first ever international in 1871 – all 20 of them – was included.
“The Hall of Fame is about so much more than winning caps for Scotland,” Paterson added. “Its purpose is to recognise those who have shown or achieved an exceptional commitment to rugby at a local, national or international level. And it can be in any sphere, for example, playing, refereeing, administration or broadcasting. Like rugby itself, it embraces everyone.”
