The UK energy regulator proposes tackling the country’s massive household energy debt by writing off as much as £500 million ($659 million) in unpaid bills and spreading those costs across all consumers.

Britain’s household energy debt has ballooned to over £4.4 billion ($5.8 billion) in the past five years, as a growing number of households struggled to pay their bills after the Russian invasion of Ukraine saw gas and power prices soar.
