If you’re looking for the perfect film to watch for Halloween tonight, the BBC has you covered with a creepy British horror. Starring Daniel Radcliffe in his first major role after the Harry Potter franchise, The Woman In Black still stands up as a brilliantly creepy film that will give you chills, and make you feel on edge.
It’s also a great way to get into the spirit of Halloween without having to leave your sofa.
BBC One will be showing the film at 00.40am, and it will be available to broadcast on iPlayer immediately afterwards. But if you’re feeling impatient, or want an early night, it’s also currently available to watch on Prime Video.

Adapted from the Susan Hill novel of the same name, the 2012 film focuses on young widow Arthur Kipps who has to travel from his home in London to a remote village. As a solicitor, he’s there to resolve the affairs of a recently deceased owner of a mansion.
But, of course, things aren’t quite what they seem when he discovers the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance.

Digital Spy at the time gave the film four stars, and praised Radcliffe’s acting skills.
“Allow yourself to be consumed by the eerie tone and convincing performances and there is every chance you will be consistently gripped for this impressive foray into old-school horror,” we said back in 2012.
Radcliffe described at the time how much the script stood out to him when he was looking at projects to take on post-Potter.
“I think one of the reasons I was so excited by the script was because I’d never imagined myself doing horror, it was never something that I gravitated towards myself particularly,” he told Den of Geek.

“Also, Jane [Goldman]’s writing is kind of amazing,” the actor continued. “It’s a testament to her writing that I read the script in an hour, it’s mainly stage directions and there’s not much dialogue, but it’s written so well and so compelling that I just raced through it.
“Then I met the director, James [Watkins], and I immediately felt that we shared a vision for the film, that it was not just a horror film but something where the characters aren’t just an excuse to scare people but actually characters who have real relationships, and it’s got real heart as well. So it was a chance to do something different, great script, great part, great director, the holy trinity!”
The Woman in Black is airing on BBC One at 00.40am on early Saturday (November 1) morning.
