A railway station was closed to the public after police received reports of a sexual assault. An investigation has been launched at Hope railway station in Flintshire, with the facility cordoned off by police today.

British Transport Police said officers were contacted in the early hours of this morning by colleagues from North Wales Police, who had received a report of a sexual assault at the station yesterday (Thursday, October 30).

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Haywood said: “We are providing specialist support to the victim while our enquiries are ongoing.

“We are reviewing CCTV, speaking to local people and conducting enquiries at the station.

“We’re grateful for local people’s patience while this important work is conducted.

“I ask anyone who may have been at the station or in the vicinity between 7pm and 11pm on Thursday 30 October and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.”

Earlier today a Transport for Wales statement said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Hope Flintshire train services through this station may be subject to disruption on all routes.

“Our Wrexham to Bidston services are unable to call at Hope Flintshire Station in either direction until further notice.”

Passengers were later advised replacement buses would run between Hope and Caergwrle to connect passengers with train services. Disruption was expected until around 3pm.

A further Transport for Wales statement said: “Customers wishing to alight or travel from Hope Flintshire will need to travel on rail service to Caergwrle Station for alternative rail replacement.

“We have organised buses to run between Caergwrle and Hope Flintshire to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will be provided by Pats Coaches and will depart every half hour at XX:00 and XX:30 from Caergwrle.

“These arrangements are in place until the station is back open following Police Investigation. Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.”

Anyone with information that could assist police should text BTP on 61016 using the reference 62 of 31 October.
