The Macedonian broadcaster MRT is continuing to discuss a potential return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026.
A potential return to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna is still being discussed by the Macedonian broadcaster MRT. In its Program Plan for 2026, which was published on October 30, the broadcaster states:
“MRT’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is a matter for which MRT has not yet made a final decision. The reasons for this are multifaceted: the need for a careful assessment of production and financial possibilities, consideration of the concept for selecting the representative and the performance strategy, as well as the analysis of previous experiences.
The MRT editorial board will consider these factors and make the best decision in accordance with the interests of the public service, the cultural promotion of the country and the expectations of the audience.”
Previous discussions among the Program Council of MRT have focused on the idea that a return to the competition in 2027 is more achievable than in 2026. And that if a return is to occur, significant planning and resources are required to ensure it is successful.
In the Program Plan. MRT does, however, announce plans for coverage of the competition on two of its channels. Coverage of all three shows will be provided on MRT 2 with Macedonian langauge coverage, while MRT 2 will also air the contest with Albanian language commentary.
The last time North Macedonia entered the contest was in 2022. Andrea represented the country in Turin with the song “Circles”. She was unable to qualify for that year’s Grand Final, though, finishing 11th in her semi-final with 76 points.

North Macedonia (previously competing as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998. They attempted to participate two years earlier but were knocked out in the pre-qualifying round. North Macedonia’s best result in the contest is a 7th place finish in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, when Tamara Todevska represented the country with the song “Proud”. North Macedonia has not participated in Eurovision since 2022.
