An ‘adventurous’ cat took herself to Manchester Airport after boarding a train from Yorkshire, unbeknownst to her owner.

Angel, a 15 year old black-and-white cat from Brighouse, Yorkshire hopped on the 3:55am TransPennine Express service on Tuesday (October 28).

She was first spotted walking along the platform with her ‘tail held high’ by conductor Will Saunders.

Shortly after departure, a passenger informed Will that the four-legged feline had jumped aboard.

Despite the concern she caused, Angel herself seemed unfazed by the journey, following Will through the carriages and greeting passengers, reports Yorkshire Live.

A spokesperson for TransPennine Express said: “Angel, a 15-year-old black-and-white cat, who is something of a local legend in Brighouse – known for her sense of adventure.

“She’s previously been spotted riding a rail replacement bus and making herself at home in the local pub, earning quite the reputation among locals for her independent streak. But her latest outing took her curiosity to a whole new level.”

Upon arrival at Manchester Airport, Will and his colleagues settled Angel into a cardboard box and took her to the station office.

Later, Will’s partner brought along a cat carrier and Will took her home to Stockport for the night.

The spokesperson added: “Unfazed by the journey, Angel confidently padded up and down the train, greeting passengers and following Will through the carriages as if she were part of the TPE crew.

“When the service arrived at Manchester Airport, Will and his team ensured their furry passenger was safe and snug.

“They gently nestled her into a cardboard box and took the whisker-wandering explorer to the station office while they pondered their next move.”

The following morning, Will’s partner noticed a number on Angel’s collar, and after reaching out to her family, drove Angel back home.

Will Saunders, Conductor at TPE, commented: “As a cat enthusiast myself, I couldn’t abandon her. She was so serene and self-assured on the train – it was as if she’d done it before.

“I’m just relieved we could keep her secure and return her home. She’s clearly a much-adored cat.”

Andrew McClements, Customer Experience and Transformation Director at TPE, remarked: “Our teams are accustomed to assisting customers reach their destinations, but this was certainly one of our more unusual passengers.

“We’re just pleased we could ensure this adventurous feline made it home safely.”
