Super League new boys York Knights could be set to continue their aggressive recruitment after being linked with a Penrith Panthers man.

Even before their place in Super League was confirmed, York Knights were strong in the market as they managed to secure Warrington Wolves forward Paul Vaughan.

Vaughan, who had an offer on the table from Warrington which he admitted to being close to signing, opted against that and signed for York way before confirmation of their Super League entry.

Since that confirmation when York became one of the competition’s expansion clubs, the Knights have continued their recruitment and retention with a number of other Super League men signing, as well as new deals for a number of star players.

They’ve now been linked with a forward who was released by NRL giants Penrith Panthers with a two-year deal reportedly done according to one outlet down under.

York Knights linked with released Penrith Panthers forward

Former Panther John Sagaga is the man who has signed a two-year deal with the Super League new boys.

That’s according to Zero Tackle journalist Ethan Lee Chalk as he took to social media to report on the deal with the former New South Wales Cup man set to head to Egland,

Sagaga has played in the NRL pre-season games but is yet to make an official appearance in the competition and he was among those released by the Panthers at the end of 2025.

Penrith released 13 players at the end of the season with Sagaga being one. Another of them is Zac Lipowicz with the forward having signed for Catalans Dragons for 2026, whilst former Hull KR hero Brad Schneider has signed with the Dolphins.

Taking to social media, Chalk posted: “Departed Penrith Panthers forward John Sagaga has signed with Super League club, York Knights, on a two-year contract, per sources.”

The young front-rower would be an interesting signing for the Knights, who have a high performance and pathways partnership with Penrith Panthers.
