Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an update to concerned fans after Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi were forced off injured against Burnley.

The Gunners moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table with their latest win, as goals from Gyokeres and Declan Rice downed the newly-promoted club.

It was Gyokeres’ first goal in six Premier League games, but his afternoon was ended at half time when he was replaced by Mikel Merino. Zubimendi, meanwhile, was replaced by Christian Norgaard after 77 minutes, and Arteta confirmed that was due to injury too.

‘Gyokeres was feeling a little niggle,’ Arteta said after full time. ‘Muscular.

‘Zubi asked to be subbed, so we have to wait.’

Both players will undergo further assessment for Arsenal to understand the extent of their injuries. The Gunners have two more matches before the international break – away to Slavia Praha in the Champions League on Tuesday and then a trip to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland next Saturday.

Much has been made of the Gunners’ improved squad depth this year, with Merino, who deputised up front when Kai Havertz was injured last season, the likely deputy to Gyokeres on this occasion should he miss any game time.

Norgaard, meanwhile, joined Arsenal for £12million from Brentford in the summer. He has had limited game time so far, much due to the form of Zubimendi, but could now be set for a run in the team.

Gyokeres has scored three goals in his last three games for Arsenal, having also netted a brace against Atletico Madrid in the Gunners’ last Champions League match.
