EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Heather Peace has made a prediction regarding the future of her character, Eve Panesar-Unwin. With Eve involved in an adoption storyline with wife Suki, what could be on the cards for the pair?

The couple have had a rough few months, becoming estranged as some issues reared their ugly head. Eve had stressed to her wife that she wasn’t immediately thinking of raising children, but this has since changed.

Suki’s step-granddaughter Avani Nandra-Hart revealed earlier this year that she was pregnant, with Suki offering to raise the child. This caused a rift between her and Eve, though Eve eventually reversed her stance.

There will be another twist in next week’s scenes, however, with Eve being influenced by the arrival of her mother, Norma. Last week, Eve was told that due to her criminal record she’d need a reference from her mum if she wants to adopt. But after a cutting remark from Norma, Eve informs Suki that she wants to halt their adoption journey.

It’s clear that Eve’s fractious relationship with Norma is having an effect on her future, and Peace explained that her character is worried that her less-than-ideal upbringing is giving her doubts about her own capabilities as a parent.

“I think Eve’s experience with Norma will make her a gentler, less judgmental parent,” said the actor. “The glimpses that we’ve had of Eve’s childhood have been her talking about how Norma was very judgmental and forever comparing Eve to her sister, who was a highflyer.

“Next week, we see that Norma is super uptight and avoids emotional conversations. I would like to hope that Eve as a parent would be open to emotional discussions with her kids, so they feel able to tell her anything.”

“Eve’s had some great parenting experience having been so close with Stacey’s kids, and also with supporting Avani and Nugget. I think she’d make an absolutely fantastic mum,” they continued.

Peace, who joined the BBC soap in 2021, previously spoke about her character’s conflict with her mother, sharing: “Norma is a bit of a slippery fish. It’s very obvious she doesn’t really approve of Suki and Eve’s relationship.

“Norma has her nose in the air a lot of the time, and she toys with them a little bit too. As the week goes on, there are some twists and turns, but when they start talking about proper stuff, it all blows up again…”

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
