Released in 2019, Emir Ezwan’s debut feature Roh is a hidden gem among Southeast Asia’s folk horror boom. The Malaysian pic, selected as the country’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars, follows a family living in the remote depths of a Dengkil forest, who are visited by a strange little girl and her frightening prediction. If you’re a fan of atmospheric chills like Thailand’s The Medium or Indonesia’s Impetigore, you’ll find a lot to love in Roh. Film Movement’s release comes with a Making Of featurette, and while the Limited Edition slipcover is sadly sold out, the standard version of Roh is just as worth your time.
