The Rugby Football League are assessing Sam Lisone’s social media post following England’s test series defeat to Australia on Saturday.

Lisone was highly critical of England head coach Shaun Wane after the Kangaroos defeated the hosts 14-4, securing the Ashes series in the process. In a post on his Instagram story, Lisone said: “Pick Jake Connor you soft fat ***** lad @shaunwayne”

Lisone, the Hull FC-bound prop, spent last season playing with Connor at Leeds Rhinos, with the halfback ending the campaign by receiving the Man of Steel.

Connor’s omission from the England squad was the big talking point before the series started and with Wane’s side only scoring one try in two games so far, it has resulted in the debate being blown open again, with Lisone making his feelings clear.

However, Lisone may now find himself in hot water, with the governing body now assessing those remarks. No officials investigation or compliance matter has been launched at this point but if it adjudged that there is a reasonable evidence to do so, the prop could find himself in trouble.

Lisone, 31, is heading to the MKM Stadium after three seasons with Leeds Rhinos, where he made 78 appearances. 2024 was arguably his best season after catching the eye under Brad Arthur, but he is now ready for a new chapter after joining Hull FC.

Meanwhile, England will look to avoid a series whitewash at the weekend when they take on Australia for a third time at Headingley, the home of the Rhinos.
