Day 3 at the ATP 250 event in Athens won’t yet feature Lorenzo Musetti’s bid for a place in Turin. Still, it will undoubtedly feature plenty of great matches and high-quality tennis, with everyone looking to end their season on a high note and set up a big 2025. Djokovic is the biggest name in the draw by far and will be playing this Tuesday, but there’s plenty else to look forward to as well in the Greek capital. But who will advance?
ATP Athens Day 3 Predictions
Yannick Hanfmann vs Ivan Ivanov
Head-to-head: first meeting
From a ranking perspective, this is most likely the most one-sided match of the entire week and one of the most one-sided of the year. While Ivanov might have great potential in the future, at this point in his career, it is doubtful he has what it takes to upset a solid player like Hanfmann here, especially given the level the latter showed in qualifying.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 2
Nuno Borges vs Eliot Spizzirri
Head-to-head: first meeting
Borges has managed to stay in the top 50 but hasn’t had any significant breakthroughs this year, with Athens his last opportunity for a substantial run. Spizzirri hasn’t made any significant inroads either and is barely holding on to a top-100 spot. It should be quite a tight match in general, but with a slight advantage to Borges, all things considered.
Prediction: Borges in 3
Novak Djokovic vs Alejandro Tabilo
Head-to-head: Tabilo 2-0 Djokovic
In what is perhaps the most stunning head-to-head record in tennis, Tabilo has routined Djokovic twice in clay court Masters 1000 events, with the Serb not even threatening to win a set. As confident as Tabilo might be given those previous results, it’s tough to imagine that scenario repeating itself on an indoor hard court. Djokovic is on the hunt for career title #101 and is very unlikely to stop that chase this Tuesday.
Prediction: Djokovic in 2
