Guillermo Del Toro Just Compared Jacob Elordi To These Hollywood Icons, And Points Were Made
If you’ve been to the cinema lately, you’ll know that Jacob Elordi is one of Hollywood’s men of the moment.
Well, when we spoke to Guillermo Del Toro about Jacob in Frankenstein, and he was all compliments.
Reflecting on the filming process, Guillermo shared that he learned from all the Frankenstein cast members, telling us, “Each of them was a teacher.”
He went on to draw some impressive comparisons between Jacob and two very legendary old Hollywood icons.
“Jacob: two takes and he was out. The truth, the craft, the discipline. He is Gary Cooper, but he’s also Marlon Brando,” Guillermo said, “He’s an incredible actor.”
Considered one of the greatest film actors of the 20th century, Marlon Brando is often credited with popularising method acting; he was known for drawing on personal memories and real emotions to bring his characters to life.
Gary Cooper, who began his career as a Western hero and went on to dominate the silver screen throughout the ‘30s and ‘40s, was said to approach his craft with a naturalistic, subtle touch.
Looking at Jacob’s performances – from Priscilla to Euphoria – it’s clear to see why Guillermo would draw those comparisons; playing turbulent, complex characters with so much nuance and depth, many of his previous co-stars have praised him for his range.
Jacob has previously described his approach to his work as “open,” and Guillermo previously shared that it was his performance that made him choose him as his creature, saying, “Jacob’s eyes are so full of humanity… I saw Saltburn, and I loved his innocence and openness.”
