A gentle white Lurcher dog is hoping to find his forever home this festive season. 13-year-old Comet is hoping that his Christmas gift this year will be that of a loving home.

Comet was found as a stray in 2019, arriving at Jerry Green Dog Rescue just before Christmas that year. He spent this festive season in the rescue, but was adopted in January 2020.

For the next five years, Comet was loved and cherished by his owner. He had the life every rescue dog dreams of.

Sadly at the start of this year, Comet’s world was turned upside down. His owner’s health began to decline and he returned to the rescue while his owner underwent treatment.

After several weeks apart, Comet returned home in April 2025 and everyone thought he had found his happily-ever-after. Tragically, this was not to be the case.

In September 2025, his beloved owner tragically received a terminal diagnosis and Comet was taken back to the rescue. Through no fault of his own or his previous owner, Comet once again found himself without a home.

As Christmas quickly approaches, Comet faces his second festive period in the rescue. The team at Jerry Green Dog Rescue are desperate to make sure it’s his last.

Comet recently celebrated his 13th birthday at Jerry Green Dog Rescue surrounded by staff and volunteers who adore him. The staff say that what he needs now is a peaceful, loving retirement home, somewhere to rest his paws and enjoy his golden years with people who will love him as much as he will love them.

In describing Comet, Jerry Green Dog Rescue says: “Comet is a calm and well-mannered companion who’s perfectly content to relax in a cosy spot while his humans go about their day. He’s happy to be left alone for up to four hours, likely to be dreaming of his new owner on the sofa. He could also share his home with kind, understanding children aged 11 and over, who will appreciate his gentle nature and enjoy quiet time with him.

“This handsome lad would love a secure garden where he can potter about, stretch his legs, and enjoy a good sunbathe, one of his favourite pastimes. Comet is worried by other dogs and animals and therefore would need to be the only pet in the home, so he can soak up all the love and attention for himself in his well-deserved retirement.

“Despite all the changes in his life, Comet remains gentle, affectionate, and endlessly kind. He asks for very little, just a warm bed, soft words, and a family to stay by his side.”
