Ex-Catalans Dragons man Luke Keary looks set to take up a coaching role with his former club Sydney Roosters.

Keary cut his time with the Dragons short by retiring at the end of the Super League season and returning to Australia. He had been linked with a coaching position at Newcastle Knights to work under Justin Holbrook, but the 33-year-old turned down that opportunity in favour of a return to the Roosters.

The half-back spent most of his playing career with the Eastern Suburbs outfit after leaving South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2017. And, he will be going back to the club to help coach their halves and emerging youngsters.

“I’m going to go back to the Roosters and have a small role with them,” Keary told Channel 9 News. “I can’t wait. That is my home.”

He added: “I want to stay involved, definitely in coaching.

“I want to do a little bit with the younger guys and pass a bit of knowledge on.

“I’m really interested in the corporate side, too. I’ve obviously done a bit of university stuff, so I’m interested in the business and finance side of things.”

Keary had just one season in Super League with Catalans after joining the club from the Roosters ahead of the 2025 campaign. He made 27 appearances for the French outfit but largely struggled for form as Catalans slipped to a ninth placed finish.

However, he will be remembered most in the Northern Hemisphere for the comments he made in the build up to Magic Weekend, calling Super League ‘horrendous’ and ‘unwatchable’ in an interview with the Australian press. He was widely criticised as a result and fined £1,000 by the RFL.

Keary was contracted for two seasons with Catalans but he cut his deal short in order to make the move back to Australia.
