One of the best things in any fandom is seeing people express their love for something through art. Whether that be a fan film, drawings or paintings, it’s always sweet to see someone combine two of their loves together. That’s what Leah Parker did with her new book Star Wars: The Official Crochet Pattern Book: Crochet Your Way Through the Galaxy. Parker, a lifelong Star Wars fan and an expert in crocheting, has put together a fun book along with other artists that will make a perfect gift for the holidays.

Star Wars: The Official Crochet Book

Published by Insight Editions, the book is broken down into different sections, covering how to craft toys, costumes, clothing and home decor. With each project, there’s a bit of background given for the given item or character. Nothing too fancy, but it is cool to see the book explain things like each lightsaber’s design being unique or the significance of clothing worn by characters on certain planets. That’s just a nice detail for fans, or for people who don’t know much about Star Wars and just pick this book up because of their interest in the craft.

On that note, the book also labels what skill level every project falls under, starting from beginner to advanced. For example, things like lightsabers or hats aren’t too difficult, but if you want to make your own Jawa or Darth Maul toys, you’ll need to have a little bit of experience before trying stuff like that. If you’re someone who already loves doing crochet as a hobby, this book is full of great ideas that you can use to make gifts for friends and family. The book itself will be a good gift for anyone you know who is artistic.

Now full disclosure here, originally, I had planned to try and make at least one thing from the book myself to show off. But uh, to say I failed miserably would be an understatement. So instead, we’ll just enjoy the examples from the real experts like Leah Parker, as well as some of the other artists like Romina Barlaro, Alexis Veenendaal, and others.

In the acknowledgments section, Parker said her love for Star Wars was passed down from her parents, and her love of crochet from her grandmother. With this book, her hope is to hopefully instill a love of both in others.

Arguably, Star Wars: The Official Crochet Pattern Book is best suited for those with a bit of crochet experience, but it can also serve as a great learning tool for those trying to get into the hobby. For more holiday gift ideas, Insight Editions has made a habit of publishing craft and art books just like this one. We’ve covered several of these titles, including The Life Day Cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, Star Wars: EverydayStar Wars: Knitting the Galaxy, and Jedi Artifacts.
