Big Brother fans have been left cold at the show’s latest backdoor eviction, which some slammed as anticlimactic.

Tonight’s episode saw the housemates celebrating Teja’s birthday and getting treated to a firework display. However, the celebratory mood was soon ruined when Big Brother informed the contestants that there would be a backdoor eviction later that night.

To spice things up, Big Brother asked nominated housemates Sam and Nancy to go to the Snug to wear some special eviction outfits. In a firework-themed night, Sam and Nancy dressed up as firework rockets in red and blue, respectively.

“Tonight, one of you is about to go out with a bang,” Big Brother said, telling them the colour of the firework display would have indicated the housemate leaving for good.

The best friend duo hit the button to start the firework display, which turned out to paint the sky red. Once again, Sam was told they had to leave the Big Brother house, though there was no chance of a “fake eviction” this time around.

As Nancy was visibly sad and Sam told her to “go win it”, not everyone was especially devastated at the latest elimination.

“Can’t say I’m surprised,” Jenny told Teja and added: “On a brighter note, we’ve made the top 10!”

Meanwhile, fans were less than impressed with the decision to have a backdoor eviction instead of a live one.

“Yeah, but like how dull that eviction was. Pathetic. Would’ve been so much more impactful live,” someone wrote on Twitter/X.

“Making us wait 24 hours to watch that dry and dull eviction, when they could’ve just done it live last night with time to spare…” they added.

To someone else, Sam’s elimination was the “most underwhelming, boring, anticlimactic eviction ever”, while a third person wrote: “that was the weirdest eviction”.

Some viewers agreed that that the eviction should have aired live for Sam to face the crowd.

“could they seriously not have done this eviction live last night,” a fourth Big Brother fan wrote, while someone else voiced their disappointment: “Nooo Sam should have faced a live crowd eviction”.

“This should have been shown live last night, with the evictee leaving straightaway and being interviewed on [Late & Live],” was another comment. “It loses all its momentum by being shown a day later.”

Tonight’s backdoor elimination leaves 10 contestants in the run for the top prize: Cameron, Caroline, Elsa, Emily, Jenny, Marcus, Nancy, Richard, Tate and Teja.

Big Brother airs on ITV2 and ITVX.
