A man has been arrested
Police at the scene on Upper Parliament Street
Armed police swarmed a main road in Liverpool city centre this evening after reports a man threatened people with a ‘gun’. Merseyside Police closed Upper Parliament Street, near the African Caribbean Centre in Toxteth, shortly after 8.45pm on Wednesday, November 5, following reports of an incident outside a property on the busy route.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as officers blocked the road, with witnesses reporting that buses were stopped in the middle of the police cordon. Officers were seen searching the street with torches and were spotted entering and leaving nearby properties as part of their investigation.
One resident told the ECHO: “There was a gang of kids and a man came out of a house and threatened them with something that looked like a gun. I think he thought they were messing around with fireworks.”

Another resident, who lives nearby, described hearing “a commotion” before police arrived. She said: “I was just in my flat and then I heard all these sirens. I looked out the window and there were around 10 police cars.
“They blocked off the road for around 10 minutes and it all died down then. I just came out to see what had happened.”
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We were contacted at just after 8.45pm tonight, Wednesday 5 November, following reports a male had made threats towards occupants of a property on Upper Parliament Street.
“Officers attended the scene and a man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody.
“No weapon has been located and enquiries remain ongoing.
“The road was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.”
