If Coronation Street fans have been loving the more comedic plots in recent weeks they are in for a treat.
Glenda Shuttleworth actress Jodie Prenger has revealed funny moments ahead, after the soap faced criticism over its darker storylines. Across the past year, some fans have hit out at the show over the drama, deaths and violent plots.
But with cast members telling The Mirror that the show is heading back towards it’s old school golden era, Jodie spoke to us about what was on the cards for Glenda, and the show as a whole. The star confessed to us that there’s more Rovers chaos and definitely more comedy.
She shared: “I have always been a staunch fan of Corrie. It is that thing of if you are going to watch it, you are guaranteed to laugh and cry in the same episode.

“It’s so special how the writers construct each episode and it gives you everything, but I do love the comedy. From what we have filmed it has been packed with comedy and packed with a lot of drama, but good drama.”
She went on: “We have done scenes and noted it can be so intense. There was a scene with Jimmi Harkishin who plays Dev, and it broke my heart. I was literally crying and that was genuine, but in the next bit seconds after, we were hysterical and laughing.
“I love what they are doing with the show and how they are constructing it. It’s the craft of Corrie that has kept it going for 65 years, and there’s some really good stuff ahead.”
Glenda has proven a huge hit as a barmaid and karaoke queen in The Rovers, and she hopes that doesn’t change anytime soon. She said: “I really enjoy it in there. I love The Rovers because I get to watch everyone else do bits.

“I see everyone perform and be funny and sad at the same time. Glenda just loves it as it’s reminiscent of her cruise ship days. It always reminds me of when my mum and nan used to run hotels in Blackpool.
“That’s how I was brought up. I hope I get to stay in there but you never know what is around the corner.” Jodie joked some of her co-stars are a nightmare to work with too.
She explained: “I hate working with Patti Clare who plays Mary, because she is so funny it is hard to keep a straight face. If you look in the background when Mary is speaking on screen, you see people laughing.
“It’s the same with Peter Gunn who plays Brian. They are so naturally funny they’re terrible people to be in a scene with. I wish they could show fans the fun you have off camera on screen.”

Jodie now hopes for some romance for Glenda, or maybe an animal adoption plot. She said: “I think she’s slightly worried about her job because it’s so uncertain, even after Carla took over she was concerned about what was going to happen.
“Maybe one day Glenda can find love. Either love, or Glenda can get a dog, or a cat. I’ve already got three cats and seven dogs at home. Maybe Glenda can open an animal sanctuary. We’ve just found the dog, Boris, who’s gonna have a walk-on part. Glenda could have a cat.”
Jodie is thrilled to have her pal Catherine Tyldesley back on the ITV soap too, after her return as Eva Price. Teasing what we can expect from Eva and the Driscolls, who now own The Rovers, she said: “I love the character of Eva. She’s bubbly, fun and everything that makes her someone Glenda would be great mates with.

“Maggie Driscoll, played by Pauline McLynn, is amazing, oh my God. We filmed a scene the other day and Glenda wasn’t supposed to be happy but because Pauline is so good I was standing there smiling.
“You lose yourself, you forget you’re filming a scene, but she’s so brilliant, they all are. It feels like they have always been there in a really good way. The fun, the warmth, the comedy. So just tune in because you’re not gonna be disappointed.”
