Nationwide Building Society has clarified the rules around a key cut-off date to claim a £50 bonus payment. The group issued a one-off payment for £50 to over 12 million customers last year, as part of its Big Nationwide Thank You payment.

The bonus was a way for Nationwide to thank its customers, after it successfully took on Virgin Money. All payments have been issued to those who are eligible, either being paid directly into a bank account or in the form of a cheque in the post.

If you were sent a cheque, you need to cash this in by January 1, 2026, to receive your payment. With the final deadline less than two months away, Nationwide was asked what happens if the new year comes around and you still haven’t cashed your cheque.

A spokesperson said: “All ‘The Big Thank You’ payments have been made to eligible customers, and all cheques have been sent. Customers must pay in cheques by 1 January 2026 to make sure they don’t miss out on the payment.

“Any enquiries from customers who have been unable to deposit their cheque by 1 January 2026 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.” All other payments were made into either a current account, an instant access or a limited access savings account in the eligible person’s name.
