Bradford Bulls

Fiji international Waqa Blake has penned a new full-time contract to remain with Bradford Bulls in Super League.

Blake has committed to a two-year deal that ensures he will be with the Bulls until the end of the 2027 season. It’s a move that comes as a huge boost for Bradford, who are preparing for their first season back in Super League since 2014.

The centre joined Bradford at the start of the year after struggling for form during his one season with St Helens in Super League. He made 31 appearances for the club across all competitions and touched down on 14 occasions.

He’ll be hoping to carry that form into Super League, where he will feel as though he has a point to prove given the difficult way his time at Saints ended.

Blake has heaps of top flight experience, having made 165 appearances in the NRL with spells coming at Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels, and he’ll be a valuable member of Kurt Haggerty’s Bulls squad.

Waqa Blake signs new Bradford deal

“I am really happy to be staying.,” Blake told the Bulls website. “I said when I signed I came here looking to enjoy my rugby again and I have done that and I am grateful to the club and the boys for the great year we had together.

“I also said we had one goal which was to return to Super League and we have achieved that. I wanted to give Super League another crack and help this club get back there, now I am excited to get going and represent this great club and its fans.”

Head coach Kurt Haggerty said: “When I came on board and Waqa had already signed it was something I was really excited about, he is someone I am really looking forward to working with.

“I studied his game at St Helens and I was well aware of the qualities that he has, he has shown he’s a proven NRL player and a proven Super League player. We need to get Waqa playing his best rugby again and I think next year we will see the best version of him.”
