Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has been ruled out of the clash at Brentford this weekend – and the club have vowed to work closely with England about his involvement for games against Serbia and Albania.

The Three Lions have already qualified for the World Cup next summer with Gordon a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad. However, he would be gutted to miss out on two caps to add to his tally.

Gordon went off five minutes before the break against Bilbao with many fearing a recurrence of the hip injury suffered for England back in March at Wembley against Albania.

Howe, speaking at his Press conference ahead of the clash with Brentford, said: “We don’t think it is serious. We will get him scanned and see the results.

“Good chance he misses out on Sunday but we will see how he is today.

“I am relaxed about that it will be all done with England’s blessing and we will work together.”

Touching on Yoane Wissa’s progress as he plots his return from a long-term knee injury, Howe said: “Yoane is working well, he is on the grass and building his fitness. It is looking at his fitness and sharpness. “
