Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received a new update about The Bear star Liza Colón-Zayas’ character. At the moment, production on the Tom Holland-led MCU movie is still underway in the UK.

What do we know about Liza Colón-Zayas’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Colón-Zayas is playing the role of Cathy, who will reportedly serve as a sidekick to Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher. At the moment, it’s unknown if Cathy is an original character or if she’s inspired by an already existing character from the Marvel comics.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie will also feature the return of Emmy winner Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. They will be joined by recently announced cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Jon Bernthal (Daredevil: Born Again) as Frank Castle/Punisher, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III (Black Lightning) as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. The latter originally played Tombstone in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Avengers vet Mark Ruffalo is also set to reprise his iconic role as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Recent rumors about Hulk’s potential role in Spider-Man 4 suggested that the hero might transform into the Savage Hulk, best known as the character’s aggressive and deadly alter-ego. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Louis D’Esposito.

The movie is set to arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
