Benjamin Nygren has divided opinion during his time at Celtic, but one thing that you can’t ignore is his goal contributions.

Nygren joined for £2m in the summer transfer window, becoming the latest Swedish international to play for Celtic.

Primarily used as a striker at his old club, Brendan Rodgers moved him further back into the midfield three alongside Callum McGregor and one of Arne Engels or Reo Hatate.

The 24-year-old looked very impressive in pre-season, but has faced criticism for his lack of pace and occasional wastefulness in front of goal.

However, the stats don’t lie and in fact, Nygren is one of the main contributors to the Hoops’ attacks.

As per the BBC Sport stat pack guide ahead of Celtic vs Kilmarnock this weekend, it was revealed that Nygren has been involved in 44 per cent of the Hoops’ league goals this season.

So far, Nygren has five goals and two assists, which accounts for seven of the 16 goals scored in the Scottish Premiership.

Only Dundee’s Cameron Cotgrave has more involvements with 56 per cent having been involved in five of the nine games.

Joining a new club always means a settling-in period and in comparison to some of his other summer arrivals, Nygren has slotted in better than most.

Even though it has been a disappointing campaign, there have been lots of lessons learned for the midfielder, including plenty from Kasper Schmeichel.

He told Ekstra Bladet: “Well, of course. We are all really irritated. None of us want to lose games. We want to win every game, so of course we aren’t satisfied.

“Kasper is a really good keeper. He has had a really good career and has remained at a high level. He has played more than 900 professional matches, which is really impressive and something to look up to.

“I also think that as a teammate and leader he has a lot of good qualities that I can learn from.”
