ITV Good Morning Britain star Adil Ray ‘hauled in by bosses’ over Sharia law remarks
ITV Good Morning Britain star Adil Ray has been reportedly hauled in by bosses after appearing to back Sharia law in New York after mayor Zohran Mamdani’s win. Ray’s comments came after fellow Mamdani was voted in as the mayor of New York.
Mr Ray posted: “Some say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart of Sharia is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion.
“Most Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia & civil law, are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the West’s portrayal.”

In response to the comments from the BBC Citizen Khan star, an ITV viewer fumed: “Take your Sharia law and f*** off.”
Another said: “This will be your undoing.”
A source said to the Sun newspaper: “GMB execs are pretty cross. His comments sent bosses into a tailspin and he was called in.
“It was a nightmare as hours earlier ITV revealed it was in talks to sell its broadcasting arm to Sky in a £1.6billion deal. Obviously, they don’t want anything to derail that.”
Mr Ray later posted: “To clarify, I am not actually suggesting Mamdani would implement sharia law.
“But many issues he campaigned for are some of the positive values of Sharia that Muslims try to live by. Something many of us would agree on.”
The 34-year-old democratic socialist and state assembly member from Queens, secured victory with more than 50% of the vote. Cuomo, 67, finished second with just over 40%, while Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa received just over 7% of the vote.
Mamdani, speaking to supporters in Brooklyn after a decisive victory over Andrew Cuomo, the former governor, said New York had shown it would be the “light” in a “moment of political darkness”.
“Here we believe in standing up for those we love, whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community, one of the many Black women that Donald Trump has fired from a federal job, a single mom still waiting for the cost of groceries to go down, or anyone else with their back against the wall,” Mamdani said.
