A number of homes have been evacuated and a street taped off after a suspected grenade was discovered in Stockport.
Emergency services were called out to an area just off Gorton Road, in Reddish, at 12.30pm this afternoon (July 26).
Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to a suspected grenade being found.
The unexploded device is believed to be historic, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Police say a small number of homes were evacuated as a precaution and a bomb disposal team is on its way to the scene.

A number of homes on Gorton Road near to the business centre can be seen inside the cordon.
A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 12.30pm today, officers received a call regarding a suspected grenade being discovered in an area of land near Gorton Road, North Reddish.

“Addresses in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and EOD [explosive ordnance disposal] are en-route to the scene.
“There are not believed to be suspicious circumstances regarding the discovery.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: “Just after 1pm on Saturday, July 26, fire crews were called to assist after the discovery of a suspected grenade near Gorton Road, Reddish.

“Fire engines from Whitehill, Stockport and Ashton stations were quickly mobilised to the scene.
“Firefighters remain at the scene, working alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe.”
