An out-there comedy with some big names in its cast has found a new UK streaming home.
Rumours, which premiered at Cannes in 2024 and has been available to buy and rent digitally for a while now, is now available for Sky or NOW subscribers to stream as of today.
The plot follows a group of world leaders meeting at the G7 Summit, which is set upon by a dense fog and a series of surreal events, with the genre jumping between “comedy, apocalyptic horror, and swooning soap opera” (via Rotten Tomatoes).
The film stars The Lord of the Rings‘ Cate Blanchett, Game of Thrones‘ Charles Dance, and Tomb Raider‘s Alicia Vikander.
On the aggregate site, Rumours has a critic score of 76% from 125 reviews, with the cast and the breadth of tone both receiving praise.

“Rumours is a highly entertaining political satire as the performances and comic timing are on point from a superb ensemble cast,” said HeyUGuys, while The Sun said: “Rumours is worth watching just to see Blanchett, who plays Hilda Ortmann, do what is clearly an impression of former German chancellor Angela Merkel.”
“Rumours can be confounding and the first half moves a bit slowly, but it’s also quite mesmerizing and the final hour is chock full of enough doomsday madness to keep the audience intrigued and engaged (as well as confused),” stated The Contending.

The New York Times called it “sporadically ingenious, occasionally chilling and entirely bonkers…”, while Rolling Stone dubbed the film “something that seeks to confuse and delight you in equal measures, this is seven courses of absurdity, served with a side of tongue in cheek from a trio who know what they’re doing, even if you’re not always sure what that is..”
In short, this is one you’ll want to give your attention to, rather than have on in the background.
Rumours is available now on Sky/NOW.
