Salford Red Devils

Salford Red Devils’ financial crisis looks set to continue with the club’s self-imposed funding timeline passing by with no further communication on if the promised money has finally arrived.

It’s been a disastrous 12 months or more for Salford who had applied for an advance on their central funding in late 2024 as cash flow problems become obvious at the club.

Despite their takeover in February that promised debts would be cleared, money never arrived with wages paid late on multiple occasions and HMRC on the club’s backs over those unpaid debts.

After multiple adjournments, including one at their most recent hearing in late October, the Red Devils’ owners released a statement which saw them “confirm that new funding has been formally secured”.

They added that it was “expected to be received within the next twelve days”. That statement was 13 days ago with no further update, other than to confirm more player exits.

Salford Red Devils confirm another exit as money still doesn’t land

The latest of those player exits is Jamie Pye with Salford only announcing his departure now, despite new club Rochdale Hornets having announced his arrival last week.

It’s yet another example of shocking communication from the Red Devils ownership group with the emotions of Salford fans completely disregarded.

Their statement surrounding funding, dated 29th October, saw the ownership group emphasise that it would have been far easier to wind the club up as they went to extreme lengths to paint themselves as the ‘good guys’ in the situation.

They stated: “While winding up may have presented a simpler financial solution, it would have come at a significant cost to the local businesses, many of which are owned and operated by our loyal supporters, who have stood by us through challenging times.

“We have chosen the more difficult path to protect these vital pillars of our community, ensuring they can continue to trade and thrive alongside us.”

Those same pillars have been torn down throughout the season on account of their inaction surrounding their long-promised money, with this latest eclipsed deadline just another showing of that.
