The One Show’s Alex Jones confessed she was moved to tears by Sara Cox‘s emotional update on her BBC Children in Need challenge.

Radio 2 presenter Sara is currently undertaking a gruelling 135-mile run that will see her cross four counties – Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire – in an effort to raise funds for the charity.

She was overcome with emotion on Wednesday (November 12) when she discovered that she had surpassed the one million pound fundraising mark, admitting that she felt “broken”.

Later that day on The One Show, Alex revealed how deeply affected she was by listening to Sara on the radio, reports Wales Online.

While discussing the radio star’s progress with Angellica Bell, her co-host on the BBC programme, Alex admitted: “We just need to talk about Sara for a minute.”

“Did you hear her on Radio 2 this morning?” asked the star. “I had to pull over because I was in floods of tears. She is amazing.”

She continued: “If you’re watching Sara, good luck, we are so behind you.”

Earlier in the day, Sara had spoken to her DJ pal Scott Mills on the radio about how she was getting on with the tough challenge, which will see her run the equivalent of five marathons across five days to raise money.

Scott updated the star on the fundraising efforts, leaving Sara in tears as she learned she had raised more than £1,002,869 so far.

“Oh my God!” she exclaimed, looking stunned to hear that she had passed the million mark.

“That is amazing. Thank you. You’ve completely broken me. Everybody who has donated, thank you so much.”

“I am so proud of you,” said Scott, who sounded emotional himself as he praised his colleague for what she had managed to achieve.

“I can’t believe it,” Sara admitted as she brushed tears from her eyes. “That is so generous. Thank you so much. Every fiver, every tenner… it all makes a massive difference.”
