Ebanie Bridges has opened up on how she helped her boxer boyfriend Kell Brook defeat his inner demons after the former world champion revealed that she ‘saved his life’.

The boxing power couple – who both won world titles during their careers – went public wth their relationship earlier this year after announcing the birth of Ezerra Ray, their first child.

Brook offered a glimpse into his relationship with Bridges last month when the 39-year-old revealed he had been struggling with addiction and depression issues for years and that the Australian has been a key figure in his recovery.

‘She got me out of that darkness. She saved my life, really and truthfully.’

He made the comments ahead of his return to the ring in February against Eisa Al Dah, who had been scheduled to face the late boxing legend Ricky Hatton.

Bridges said that Brook’s openness was a touching moment for her.

‘It made me feel appreciated and it was just lovely to hear that, and for him to make that public,’ she told Fox Sports Australia.

‘The way he was headed with his lifestyle, addiction and mental health issues, there was high chances he would end up like Ricky Hatton.

‘Everyone around him has told me that if it wasn’t for you I don’t think Kell would still be here.

‘When you pull someone out of darkness and away from the anchors of addiction, and help them build a new life, I guess it is saving them.’

Bridges also told Boxing King Media that Brook was ‘possessed by the devil’.

‘I saw the person, the man he is underneath. I could see that he was possessed by this devil – addiction and depression. I could see what was underneath and I wanted to bring that out.

‘To hear that, it was nice for Kell. And it was also because, Kell, he’s a very, very private person. So for him to talk about me in that (way)…it’s very private and deep for him.

‘So for him to come out about that was really lovely.’
