Auston Trusty admits he has asked some of his USA teammates about Wilfried Nancy – with the Columbus Crew boss poised to be named as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Celtic.
Record Sport revealed earlier on Friday that the Hoops are in advanced talks to bring the Frenchman to Glasgow from the MLS and that they hope to have him in the building for their return to action with a trip to Paisley to face St Mirren in eight days time.
Nancy, 48, has enjoyed some stellar success in the US’s top tier, winning two trophies with the Crew and also bagging the MLS manager of the year award for 2024.
Celtic full back Alistair Johnston previously played under him at Montreal CF while the club’s Head of Football Operations Paul Tisdale, worked with Nancy’s assistant Kwame Ampadu at Exeter City.
Fellow defender Trusty is on international duty with his country for their friendly double header against South American duo Paraguay and Uruguay.
Also included in the squad is Columbus Crew trio Patrick Schulte, Max Arfsten and Sean Zawadzki and Trusty reveals they have had brief discussions about Nancy’s pending arrival in Glasgow’s East End.
Speaking ahead of the two matches, he said: “A couple of the Crew guys have mentioned it in the USA camp.
“We haven’t talked too much in depth but I know he’s a good coach and has had a lot of success.

“They were asking if I’d seen it and I was asking what their thoughts are.
“That sort of stuff has nothing to do with me, with regards to who the gaffer is going to be.
“If Martin stays, that would be awesome, but I have no control over whoever comes in.”
