Friends of Christchurch Park have now said that they no longer object to plans for the 18-hole course to be built on an unused bit of the park.

As one of the consultees for the plans, they originally raised a number of concerns with the developers, Jackie Tennens, including the butterfly garden being in close proximity and being impacted by the noise of the golf course, the financial viability of the golf course, limited detail on the operation of the golf course and the “attractive green space” it would sit on being disturbed.

They did, however, state that they were generally supportive” of the plans with regards to its aim of “increasing both the usage of a park space and the range of activities for children and families available”.

They have now submitted a further consultation after they met with the developers to discuss the plans, which were submitted in August.

In this, they said: “We retain significant reservations regarding the application but on balance no longer objects to the planning application as it currently stands provided that all mitigation actions are fully implemented and completed”.

They said they understand in more detail some of the mitigation actions that will be in place to reduce noise and how it will operate, with there to always be an individual on site with supervisory responsibilities while the course is operating.

Ipswich Borough Council are still to make their decision on the plans which includes hole names ‘Wiggly Worm Run’, ‘Loopy Lou Lane’ and ‘Magic Mushroom Mound’.

Each course will have a different obstacle on it including rocks, water hazards, loop the loop, humps and bridges.
