Watch Italy v South Africa today, as the Azzurri attempt to follow-up last weekend’s famous win over the Wallabies on mild, potentially rainy afternoon at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
Italy have only beaten South Africa once in their history. That sole 20-18 victory came in 2016, and was part of a rare run of games in which the Springboks won just twice in 10 matches. The 2025 vintage are an entirely different beast, however, and the Azzurri will have to put in the performance of a lifetime to beat the double world champions.
Not that Italy will be short of confidence after last week’s famous victory over Australia. Head coach Gonzalo Quesada has unsurprisingly kept faith with most of the successful team from last Saturday, with just one change to the starting XV as Marco Riccioni replaces Simone Ferrari in the front row. He’s also moved to a 6-2 split on the bench.
In a display of his team’s strength in depth, South Africa boss Rassie Erasmus has completely revamped the team that triumphed against France last time out – only Damian Willemse, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Boan Venter and captain Siya Kolisi keep their places in the XV. Lood de Jager is suspended after last weekend’s red card.
The ever adventurous Erasmus has also taken a gamble on the bench, deciding not to name a hooker among his substitutes. Number 8 Marco van Staden will fill in if required.
